Anything But Cute - #10 - Grungy Love

Hello Everyone!

It's the 5th of the month again, time for another challenge to launch over at Anything But Cute. This time around the very lovely and talented Sara Emily is our hostess with the most-est, and she has chosen the theme GRUNGY LOVE!

Here is what Sara Emily has to say about her fabulous theme GRUNGY LOVE. "To celebrate St. Valentine's Day, we would like to see you make a Grungy Valentine's project for your sweetheart!  It can be a card, tag, or anything else you might give a loved one to show them how much you care. Just be sure it's grungy!"

What a fantastic theme, love it!! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to put together a Valentine's card for my hubby. Lots of ink sprays, paints and crackle glaze...and of course dimension. It just wouldn't feel right if I didn't add a flower or two, so I grunged them up as well!

The gears die cuts are from Cheery Lynn, the silver gears are real metal pieces that I pulled from my stash. The hearts were cut using Go-Kreate and the black rhinestones are from my stash. The beautiful white flower was sent to me from my lovely and  talented friend Sanderijn of Live Laugh Love. The red roses are from my stash.

For the background I applied some paste through a Memory Box stencil then sprinkled on some Prima black microbeads and some UTEE while the paste was still wet. I drizzled on some Ranger, Tim Holtz and DecoArt ink sprays and then splashed with a little black paint diluted with water. For the hearts, I covered a piece of deep red card stock with DecoArt Crackle Glaze and then rubbed some Carbon Black Antiquing Cream into the cracks.

EXTREME CLOSE-UP TIME!!!

I am entering the following wonderful challenges:

***
Some exciting news...I was bound and determined to find an area where I could see the sun set, so off I went with my camera the other night to find my sweet spot. I had to go two whole blocks before I found it, which meant I was in the middle of nowhere when it got dark, but it was sooooooo worth it!! I finally got a couple images of a sun set, YAY!!!! (is it odd that I travelled due South to get there?)

I did make a few stops along the way to grab a shot of these really cool trees, and the plane contrails that were really bright pink and looked oh so awesome!!

Any other winter, this big empty wooden frame on the ground, would actually be an ice rink. I find it really sad to think that the kids in the neighbourhood are probably playing video games because there's nothing to do outside! That white stuff is plastic, not ice.

I got a shot from my balcony that made me happier than a camper with a can of beans. I took about 30 shots with the zoom lens (you remember, the one as big as my head), as I kneeled on one knee on the cold concrete with my neck cranked back so far, I thought it might snap, but here is it...the fruits of my labour! I know it doesn't look like much, but anyone who has ever tried to take a picture of the moon will understand how awesome that detail is.

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

  1. Oh my what a beauty of a card Pamellia. Despite being "grungy" it is so beautifully feminine too. Fabulous mix of colours, layers and textures but more than anything such an amazing mix of cogs and flowers! Fabulous! I've pinned it to come back to again for some of the techniques - TFS. Fabulous photography too! Have a great weekend. Jennie x

  15. You have managed to create the most beautiful, yet grungy card Pamellia. Not your usual soft, shabby chic colours but a rich and romantic blend of red and black and so it seems you are a master of them both. I love it with all it's gorgeous details and metal elements.

  22. Just back from the UK Pamellia after having a super time with the grandkids, Alex has just turned 16. The first few months of the New Year are busy times for me going backwards and forwards to the UK.

Another brilliant masterpiece and wow this is certainly grungy love in it's truest form. I am sure he will adore it.

Just put the finishing touches to a canvas that I have been making for my other half but can't show yet because he always looks at what I post!!!

  23. Gorgeous and grungy are not two words that normally go together but wow, that is exactly what you have created. I love the fabulous stencilling and then your treatment to make it all grungy - wow, it is so, so beautiful, I just want to reach out and touch it. The red crackled hearts are a lovely contrast to the hard metal of the cogs - and then the beautiful flowers soften it again. Wonderful contrasts and wonderfully grungy!

The sunset photos are glorious and the moon shot is amazing!! Hugs, Anne xx

  24. I can't believe that's the stencil you used for your background... well, yes - I believe it but... in the end - it totally looks more like industrial cogs and gears instead of a floral motif. HOW AMAZING IS THAT??? Well - you are the Queen of amazing so only amazing to me but... my point is.... WOW - GENIUS BACKGROUND. INCREDIBLE COLORS. CAPTIVATING TEXTURES. ROMANTIC INTRIGUE. DELUXE GRUNGE. :)

And that sunset. So yummy I would love to paint it Pamellia. You really captures a lovely scene - so glad you found your spot! And the moon - stunning - wow - it looks perfect - so peaceful and shimmery. I just love seeing life through your lens. XX j.

  33. Oh my good grief, this is spectacular, Pamellia!! Wow, Wow, Wow!! I'm not sure I have a big enough vocabulary to comment on this!! To say it's stunning is an understatement!! The texture is amazing!! I know I say this every time, but it takes me so long to comment...I have to study every single picture!! It's both grungy and stunning and just fantabulous!! I love, love it!! Wow!! I'm cutting this short so I can scroll back up and study it some more!! You should link this up at Scrapy Land...you used a Cheery Lynn die so it qualifies!!

Your photos are amazing!! Wow, I'm in awe of the moon!! Next full one, I'm going to try to capture one with my lens. I still can't figure out how to use it without a tripod. It wears my arms out!! The sunset is stunning!! Have a great weekend my friend!! Big hugs :)

  35. Hi Pamellia,
    another super creation.
Great colours, and really super design too.
You really are such a very talented mixed media person.
It must take you ages for all that super work to dry, but well worth all that work for the end result.
    Such wonderful photos yet again.
You must be very patient to stand and wait to take that sunset.
Wern't you scared to be out there all on your own in the middle of nowhere.
    Have a wonderful weekend.
